Silver-plated B flat trumpet by Blanchard, Paris: date not known, all in working order

Remove the straight crook (shown underneath the instrument) and it becomes a trumpet in C, which can then
play from the same music as non-transposing instruments such as piano, guitar etc

It comes with a substantial wooden / leather case (more details below); you can slip music into the space below the trumpet-berth

The bell is 11 cm wide, and the whole instrument (excluding mouthpiece) is about 49 cm long

The valve-tops are mother-of-pearl or similar. Any apparent discolouration (on valve 3 above) is an artefact of the photo only

This picture shows the transposing crook partly extended – plenty of tuning control here. Top right,
a neat silver plated repair done by Trevor Jones and Co in Bristol some time in the last ten or so years

Third-valve slide moves well, as do all the others ...

... shown here, removed (they come out with a satisfying 'pop'!)

This photograph shows that the valves are free; the tops unscrew readily

Another shot of the transposing crook and the water-key, which has been re-corked

Embossed leather label inside shows that the case is by Besson of London

It is sturdy, showing signs of comfortable wear, and needing a little cosmetic attention (top left)

The handles and catches are strong and dependable

Two views of the mouthpiece included, marked 'B&S' and '2/3'
